Reciprocal borrowing - Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art

Edinburgh University Library and Edinburgh College of Art Library provide reciprocal borrowing facilities for staff and matriculated students of their two institutions. This agreement covers all relevant units and sites of the two Libraries. Edinburgh University class and departmental libraries are not included in the agreement with the exception of the Art & Architecture Library of the School of Arts, Culture and Environment.

Each Library maintains its existing collection policies. In particular each recognises the obligation to support its own coursework and the core research interests of its own staff and students.

Borrowers applying for reciprocal privileges will present an application form authorised by their home library, along with a current matriculation card or staff ID card. The home library will set a registration expiry date at or before the end of their current academic year, or the end of the borrower’s course, if sooner. Registration may be renewed for continuing staff and students on presentation of a further authorised application form.

Edinburgh University borrowers will continue to use their existing matriculation card or staff ID card to borrow from the College of Art library. College of Art borrowers will be provided with an EUL external borrowers card. Borrowers will notify the host library of any ID changes, for example change of address, or change of borrower number as the result of the replacement of a lost card.

Borrowers applying for reciprocal privileges undertake to obey the rules and regulations of the host library and will be responsible for any debts or charges incurred by failing to observe them.

Borrowing limits and loan periods are at the discretion of the host library and will normally follow those for external borrowers. Each library may exclude particular categories of item from reciprocal borrowing. These will include short loan course material and videos.

IT equipment, and networked and online information sources provided under licence, are not covered by this agreement and may not be used by reciprocal borrowers.
